Dua Lipa took on the challenge of breaking down the ongoing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar during her hosting and musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live.
In a humorous sketch aired on May 4, the 28-year-old pop sensation portrayed Wanda Weems, a cultural critic trying to unravel the web of diss tracks exchanged between the two rap giants. Standing before a board adorned with photos of Drake and Lamar, connected by strings and sticky notes bearing terms like “OVO” and “shoe size,” Lipa’s character attempted to explain the escalating feud to the show’s hosts, Gail Gohnson (played by Heidi Gardner) and Mason Monroe (played by Mikey Day).
In her Southern drawl, Lipa’s character remarked on the intensifying nature of the diss tracks, referencing Lamar’s “Euphoria” and Drake’s “Push Ups.” She highlighted Drake’s jab at Lamar’s manhood, alleging he wears a size 7 shoe, while also noting Drake’s legal battle with Tupac’s estate over his use of an AI version of the late rapper’s voice.
Lipa’s appearance on SNL marked her third stint as the musical guest and her debut as a host. During the episode, she performed songs from her newly released third studio album, Radical Optimism, including “Illusion” and “Happy for You.”
With Lipa’s episode behind us, SNL’s 49th season is set to conclude with two more episodes: one on May 11 featuring former SNL star Maya Rudolph as host for the third time, accompanied by musical guest Vampire Weekend for their fourth appearance; and another on May 18, with Jake Gyllenhaal returning as host for the third time and Sabrina Carpenter making her musical guest debut.
