Sharon Stone Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles
In a deeply emotional interview, Sharon Stone bared her soul, revealing her ongoing battle with mental health issues. The 66-year-old actress, famed for her role in the 1992 thriller Basic Instinct, shared her journey on Turkish Tea Talk with host Alex Salmond.
Stone disclosed that her memory still bears the scars of a stroke she suffered in 2001, which resulted in a near-fatal brain hemorrhage. Reflecting on her past, she expressed, “It’s like the life that was this other person, that you can claim as your life but it doesn’t feel like, ‘Oh I was there, I did that.'”
Despite her struggles, Stone remains resilient, gradually reclaiming fragments of her past. She also discussed her role as a World Health Organization ambassador, emphasizing the global magnitude of mental health challenges, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Covid happened and we shut down the world and you had to be with just you,” Stone remarked. While some embraced newfound hobbies like baking or language learning, others faced inner demons. Stone highlighted the startling statistic that one in ten individuals globally grapple with mental health issues.
For Stone, the path to healing starts with self-compassion and accountability. “You must stand strong and when you blow it — okay, so what? That was two steps ago,” she asserted. “You have to get back up and get yourself together and help whoever you think you bumped around, and keep moving forward.”
In her poignant message of self-forgiveness and resilience, Stone urged, “Get back up and let’s go.” Her words resonate as a beacon of hope for anyone navigating the turbulent waters of mental health challenges.
