Following 54 holes of play, the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am has concluded, and Wyndham Clark, the current U.S. Open champion, emerged as the winner. In a virtual news conference, Clark expressed his feelings, describing the experience as surreal.
Due to inclement weather, including heavy rainfall and winds up to 60 mph, the final round of the tournament, scheduled for Sunday, was postponed to Monday. However, the PGA Tour, in collaboration with Monterey County emergency authorities, decided to cancel the remaining golf due to safety concerns. With a score of 17 under, Clark, who led by one stroke after the third round, secured his victory.
Reflecting on the unusual circumstances, Clark acknowledged the challenge of maintaining focus on the potential for a fourth round. Despite the disrupted schedule, he appreciated the support and standing ovation from the crowd after his record-breaking 12-under 60 on Saturday at Pebble Beach.
The decision to conclude the tournament after 54 holes means Clark has clinched his third PGA Tour victory. The stormy weather and high winds led to a shelter-in-place order for the Pebble Beach community.
Clark described the tournament as special to him and his caddie, John Ellis, emphasizing Pebble Beach as their favorite place. Despite the unconventional ending, Clark expressed gratitude and a sense of accomplishment.
The 2023 U.S. Open champion’s stellar performance included a record-setting 28 on the front nine of Pebble Beach during the third round. Clark’s eagle putt on 18 narrowly missed a 59, but he secured the record for the best round ever at the historic venue.
As Clark celebrated his victory, he also addressed rumors about considering a move to LIV Golf. He confirmed meeting with LIV but ultimately declined, choosing to focus on his legacy and pursue records on the PGA Tour.
The 54-hole conclusion marks a rare occurrence in PGA Tour events, adding an unexpected twist to Clark’s memorable win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
