The leader of the Texas Nationalist Movement, Dan Miller, claims that support for Texas independence is on the rise, particularly following clashes with President Joe Biden over border security. Despite the Texas Supreme Court’s refusal to hear the case for state independence, Miller remains optimistic about the movement’s momentum.
The separatist group garnered 139,000 signatures in their petition, surpassing the required 97,000 for consideration. However, the Texas Supreme Court declined to provide a reason for rejecting the bid.
Matthew Rinaldi, Chair of the state’s Republican Party, expressed appreciation for the court’s swift rejection, emphasizing adherence to Texas law regarding internet petitions.
In an interview with GB News America, Dan Miller underscored the Texas Nationalist Movement’s nearly two-decade-long campaign for self-governance, asserting a clear vision for Texas as an independent and self-governing nation.
Miller highlighted the group’s claim of 60% voter support for Texas independence, with increasing concerns over illegal migration and border issues being pivotal factors. He argued that these challenges expose a broader problem, emphasizing the strained relationship between the federal government and states. According to Miller, Texans aspire to govern themselves based on their preferences, in contrast to the federal government’s one-size-fits-none approach.
The interview concluded with Miller linking the motivation for Texas independence to perceived flaws in the federal-state relationship, drawing parallels to the Brexit debate’s focus on unrestricted mass migration revealing deficiencies in the European Union.
