Among 4 ejected after scuffle with Pelicans, Heat’s Jimmy Butler

A heated exchange unfolded during the fourth quarter of the Miami Heat’s 106-95 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night, resulting in the ejection of four players, including Miami’s Jimmy Butler.

Butler expressed surprise at being ejected, explaining that he was simply trying to prevent Pelicans forward Naji Marshall from engaging with Kevin Love.

Thomas Bryant from the Heat and Pelicans’ Marshall and Jose Alvarado were also ejected after tempers flared with 11:19 left in the game and the Heat leading 84-81.

The incident began when Pelicans’ Zion Williamson stole the ball from Butler, prompting Love to intervene and stop Williamson from making an easy layup. As Love was called for a foul, Williamson fell, and Marshall rushed to confront Love.

Butler claimed that Williamson exaggerated the impact of the foul, leading to Marshall’s involvement, which further escalated the situation.

The confrontation between Butler and Marshall turned physical briefly as teammates and coaches intervened to separate them. Meanwhile, Bryant and Alvarado exchanged words and blows near the scorers’ table.

The incident also sparked unrest among fans in the stands, with one fan throwing objects at Miami players and subsequently being ejected by security.

After reviewing video footage, officials ejected the four players involved in the altercation, while Love received a common foul.

Despite the intense atmosphere, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged that such competitiveness is part of the game.

Butler remained confident in his team’s abilities, expressing readiness to face the Pelicans again in their next meeting.

The altercation highlighted the competitive spirit on the court but also served as a reminder of the importance of maintaining sportsmanship and composure in heated moments.
