Early camera tests of Xiaomi 14 Ultra vs iPhone 15 Pro Max reveal major video leap for Android flagship

Shortly after Xiaomi revealed its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, a series of brief reviews have emerged showcasing the impressive camera capabilities of the device, with some even suggesting that it can rival the renowned Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max in terms of video performance.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra, introduced earlier this week in China, offers several upgrades, including an enhanced camera setup featuring a quad-50 MP configuration, promising exceptional versatility and quality.

Several early camera tests of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra have surfaced since its launch, providing insights into its video and photo capabilities. One review, posted on YouTube by Techy Artist, compares the Xiaomi 14 Ultra directly with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, highlighting the former’s impressive video quality and color reproduction. However, it appears to struggle slightly with brighter shades of red and pink, a common issue among digital sensors.

Notably, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra excels in video stabilization, matching or even surpassing the iPhone 15 Pro Max in side-by-side comparisons. This is particularly impressive considering that many smartphones struggle with stabilizing footage during movement.

Another camera test, shared by Alpha Tech on YouTube, focuses on the zoom capabilities of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The device demonstrates strong stabilization even at maximum zoom levels, with images taken at 30× zoom remaining sharp. However, some minor artifacts are visible at 50× zoom, particularly around dark shapes against bright backgrounds.

Additionally, Alpha Tech provides a comprehensive comparison between the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, reaffirming the former’s strong video stabilization and impressive image quality, especially with the ultra-wide sensor.

Despite the limitations of evaluating image sharpness through YouTube videos, both reviewers note that still images captured by the Xiaomi 14 Ultra exhibit sharpness, realistic color reproduction, and solid background separation. The device also performs admirably in low-light conditions, producing well-controlled highlights and shadows with minimal noise.

Overall, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s performance across various scenarios underscores its status as a formidable contender in the premium smartphone market, signaling a significant advancement for Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
