GOP lawmakers accused James Biden of contradicting himself during testimony about his brother’s supposed business dealings with the family on Wednesday.

GOP lawmakers accused James Biden of contradicting himself during his testimony regarding his brother’s alleged business dealings with the family on Wednesday.

At first, the president’s brother claimed he wasn’t involved in a deal with his nephew Hunter Biden and business associates Rob Walker, Tony Bobulinski, and James Gilliar, as per a source familiar with the interview. However, when confronted with an agreement bearing his signature, Biden changed his stance, stating he didn’t recall signing it, according to the source.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., speaking to reporters afterward, found Biden’s testimony “interesting” and noted that he had “contradicted himself.” Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., echoed this sentiment, stating, “There are a lot of things that Mr. Biden is saying that are directly contradicted by documents.”

These remarks followed James Biden’s voluntary private interview on Capitol Hill as part of House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into his brother, President Joe Biden. During the interview, James emphasized that Joe Biden had never been involved in or had any financial interest in his business ventures.

The interview, lasting over eight hours and involving both Republican and Democratic staff, saw Republicans claiming that James Biden’s responses contradicted his opening statement and suggested he avoided directly answering investigators’ questions.

This interview was part of GOP lawmakers’ efforts to revive momentum for an impeachment process surrounding the Biden family’s overseas finances, which had stalled in recent months. Despite federal prosecutors undermining a central claim of the GOP investigation last week, Republicans remain determined to proceed, stating that it doesn’t alter the fundamental facts.

The impeachment inquiry, initiated in September by the House Judiciary and Oversight committees, has included recent depositions of several former Biden family associates.
