A man from Idaho was handed a prison sentence on Friday for deliberately attempting to spread HIV by engaging in unprotected sex with numerous men and teenage boys, according to prosecutors. Alexander Louie, aged 34 and residing in Boise, received a 30-year prison term on May 3 for several felony charges, which included transferring bodily fluids containing the HIV virus, as per a statement from prosecutors. In exchange for pleading guilty to charges including sexual battery of a minor, enticing a child via the internet, and transmitting HIV-containing bodily fluids, Louie had six other felony charges dropped, as reported by the Idaho Statesman. Initially, authorities suspected Louie of child enticement after he engaged in online sexual conversations with an undercover detective from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, who posed as a 15-year-old boy. Subsequently, they arranged to meet for sexual activity, leading to Louie’s arrest. Louie, who is HIV-positive and was not undergoing treatment, allegedly deceived his sexual partners about his HIV status with the intention of infecting them. He admitted to having sexual relations with approximately 30 to 50 different men and boys, including a 16-year-old. Following this, prosecutors filed numerous charges against Louie. During his sentencing hearing, Ada County District Judge Derrick O’Neill condemned Louie’s actions, labeling them as predatory. Louie’s attorney from the public defender’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Louie will not be eligible for parole until he serves 16 years.
