Pakistan election: Two deadly blasts in Balochistan day before vote

The recent election in Pakistan has been marked by tragic incidents of violence, with two separate explosions resulting in the loss of at least 20 lives and injuring many others.

The first explosion occurred outside the office of an independent candidate in the Pishin district, claiming the lives of 12 individuals. A second blast occurred about 150 kilometers away in the Qillah Saif Ullah district, resulting in the deaths of eight people. Details regarding the second explosion are still emerging as authorities continue their investigation.

Images shared on social media depict the devastating aftermath of the explosions, showing vehicles and motorcycles destroyed by the force of the blasts. The initial explosion targeted the election office of a local independent candidate, where officials have confirmed that a meeting was taking place at the time.

These tragic incidents unfolded amidst a backdrop of violence and allegations of electoral fraud leading up to the election, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Despite the challenges posed by these acts of terror, the Balochistan government has affirmed that the election will proceed as scheduled.

Law enforcement authorities are actively investigating the cause of the explosions, while the injured have been swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

In response to the attacks, provincial information minister Jan Achakzai has reassured the public that the democratic process will continue without disruption. Measures will be put in place to prevent terrorists from undermining or disrupting the electoral process.
