PlayStation State of Play’s Five Biggest Reveals: ‘Death Stranding 2,’ ‘Rise of the Ronin’ and More

Sony’s recent PlayStation State of Play for 2024 made quite a splash, treating gamers to a 43-minute showcase filled with first-look footage and exciting announcements for upcoming console releases. Among the revelations were a PlayStation 5 remake of “Until Dawn,” the PlayStation version of “Dave the Diver” featuring Godzilla, and a glimpse into Capcom’s “Dragon’s Dogma II.”

Yet, stealing the spotlight were the major announcements from gaming maestros Hideo Kojima and Ken Levine. Here are the top five reveals from this State of Play:

**1. “Stellar Blade”**
The spotlight shone on “Stellar Blade,” ShiftUp’s narrative set in a post-apocalyptic Earth facing the NA:tive, a mysterious Demogorgon-like enemy. Players step into the shoes of paratrooper Eve, with companions Adam and Lily, on a mission to save humanity. The preview showcased gameplay elements like skill trees, equipment upgrades, and key locations such as the subterranean city Xion. “Stellar Blade” is slated for release on April 26.

**2. “Silent Hill: The Short Message”**
In the Silent Hill universe, two major announcements were made. First, the unveiling of the free-to-play title “Silent Hill: The Short Message,” available on the same day for PlayStation 5. The game introduces a young woman navigating an unfamiliar, hostile environment, haunted by messages from a friend.

**3. “Judas”**
Ken Levine, the visionary behind BioShock, teased his latest creation, “Judas,” through a captivating story trailer. The first-person shooter explores a narrative where every word and thought are recorded, offering players gameplay featuring hostile robots, spray-painting mishaps, and a shotgun-wielding dinosaur donning a cowboy hat. The release date remains undisclosed.

**4. “Rise of the Ronin”**
A gameplay overview of “Rise of the Ronin,” exclusively launching on PS5 on March 22, showcased impressive traversal mechanics and dynamic combat. Japanese long swords intersect with foreign guns, and inventive tools like the Fire Pipe add to the excitement.

**5. “Death Stranding 2: On The Beach” and “Physint” by Hideo Kojima**
In a mysterious trailer for “Death Stranding 2: On The Beach,” featuring Léa Seydoux and Norman Reedus, a new narrative unfolds. Following the trailer, Hideo Kojima announced his new action-espionage IP, “Physint,” promising an elevated level of “Digital Entertainment.” While details are scarce, Kojima hinted at a groundbreaking experience. The game is expected to release in 2025.

The State of Play concluded with news of another event scheduled for February 6, entirely dedicated to “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.” Excitement continues to build in the gaming community as these thrilling releases unfold.
