Sources: Warriors, coach Steve Kerr agree to 2-year contract extension

In a significant move for the Golden State Warriors, head coach Steve Kerr has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $35 million. The news, which was first reported by ESPN, comes as Kerr enters his 10th season with the team, aiming to build upon their previous successes, including four NBA titles.

Kerr’s extension now positions him as one of the highest-paid coaches in the league, second only to Gregg Popovich. The decision to opt for a shorter extension is particularly notable as it aligns Kerr’s tenure with that of star player Steph Curry, emphasizing a shared vision for the team’s future.

The agreement underscores the strong relationship between Kerr and the Warriors’ ownership, led by majority owner Joe Lacob, who has consistently expressed confidence in Kerr’s leadership abilities. Kerr, in return, has remained steadfast in his commitment to the team, even during challenging times such as player suspensions and the tragic loss of assistant coach Dejan Milojevic.

Despite these obstacles, the Warriors have demonstrated resilience on the court, with key players like Draymond Green returning to form and young talents like Jonathan Kuminga making significant contributions. The team’s recent string of successes, winning nine of their last 11 games, is a testament to Kerr’s coaching prowess and the collective determination of the players.

Overall, Kerr’s contract extension signals stability and continuity for the Warriors as they continue to pursue excellence in the competitive landscape of the NBA.
