In a highly anticipated moment akin to the unveiling of a new James Bond, Superman writer-director James Gunn shared the first glimpse of David Corenswet donning the iconic superhero suit on social media this Monday.
Seeing an actor transform into Superman is a rare event, reminiscent of the excitement surrounding the introduction of a new Bond. Over the decades, only three actors have portrayed the Man of Steel on the big screen: Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill. Now, Corenswet, known for his roles in TV shows like The Politician and Hollywood, steps into this iconic role, poised to elevate his fame to new heights.
The stakes are high for the film, which marks the launch of DC Studios’ new universe and slate, arriving at a challenging time for the superhero genre. Additionally, it marks James Gunn’s first foray into directing an iconic superhero, following his success with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise at Marvel Studios.
Joining Corenswet in Superman are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Holt as Lex Luthor, and a stellar supporting cast including Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Edi Gathegi, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, María Gabriela de Faría, and Wendell Pierce.
