Two teens injured, 1 killed in shooting near Chicago high school

In a heartbreaking incident near a high school in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon, two teenagers were wounded, and one tragically lost their life in a shooting, as confirmed by law enforcement officials during a press conference.

According to the police, the teens were simply walking when a vehicle pulled up, and someone got out, opening fire on all three. Fire officials later clarified that the victims included two 16-year-olds and another individual under the age of 15.

While the identities of the teens haven’t been disclosed, it was disclosed that all three were students at Nicholas Senn High School.

Mayor Brandon Johnson, expressing the city’s sorrow, emphasized the unfortunate frequency of such incidents during a press conference. “This hurts, and I know our city is hurting,” Mayor Johnson stated.

As of now, no suspects are in custody, and the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities believe that the victims were deliberately targeted, though the motive remains unclear.

This tragic event comes just five days after another incident where two teenage boys were shot and killed in broad daylight in the Loop.

Mayor Johnson asserted, “The individuals responsible for this kind of violence – it has to end. The horror and chaos, and the trauma caused by those who do not value life – the full force of the government will be employed to bring these individuals to justice.”

Interestingly, on the same day, the Chicago City Council passed a cease-fire resolution. However, it wasn’t for the ongoing violence in the city but rather for the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Middle East. The city’s mayor cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of the resolution.

Amidst the rising violence in Chicago, the city grapples with the aftermath of these distressing events, prompting a call for an end to such senseless acts.
