Louis Leterrier, the director of Fast X, has finally shared a significant update about the highly-anticipated eleventh installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. Taking over the reins in April 2022 after Justin Lin’s departure due to creative differences, Leterrier confirmed during a recent Collider interview at CCXP MX that production on Fast & Furious 11 is set to kick off early next year. Consequently, the release date has been pushed back from April 4, 2025, to an unspecified time in 2026. Leterrier expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s happening. It’s happening very, very soon.” He revealed his tight schedule, mentioning that he’ll be finishing a horror movie in September before diving into Fast & Furious pre-production the very next day.
Furthermore, Leterrier teased the film’s location, hinting at a return to Los Angeles, the original setting of the franchise’s debut film in 2001. He explained, “That’s what we wanna do. We wanna bring it back home, and still have a great big journey to tell.” Vin Diesel, the franchise’s lead star, had previously hinted at the eleventh installment being not just a “grand finale” but “a celebration of the incredible family we’ve built together.”
Before tackling Fast & Furious 11, Leterrier is set to direct his first horror movie titled 11817, written by Matthew Robinson. The film revolves around a family trapped inside their home by mysterious forces, forcing them to utilize their resourcefulness to survive. Leterrier expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing his focus on character-driven narratives. The sci-fi horror flick, currently lacking a release date and distributor, promises an unforgettable experience for audiences.
Fast & Furious 11 is slated to hit theaters in 2026.
