The Miami Dolphins plan to release CB Xavien Howard; Jalen Ramsey stirs the pot with farewell message.

The Miami Dolphins have made waves in the NFL community with the decision to release star cornerback Xavien Howard. This move, reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Peter Schrager, is part of the team’s efforts to navigate the league’s newly adjusted salary cap landscape.

In addition to Howard’s departure, the Dolphins have also said goodbye to defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, a move aimed at easing their financial burden under the updated cap regulations.

Howard, a seasoned veteran with four Pro Bowl selections to his name, had three years remaining on his contract, which he signed in 2022. Despite his stellar performance and potential as a free agent, the Dolphins opted to part ways with the cornerback, signaling a significant shift in their defensive strategy.

The team has also experienced changes in coaching staff, with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio departing to take up a similar role with the Philadelphia Eagles. Fangio’s exit, coupled with Howard’s release, underscores the Dolphins’ commitment to revamping their defensive approach for the upcoming season.

Howard’s departure marks the end of an era for the Dolphins, as he has been a key figure in their defense since joining the team in 2016 as a second-round draft pick. His leadership and playmaking abilities, including leading the NFL in interceptions twice, have left an indelible mark on the franchise.

Moving forward, the Dolphins face the challenge of managing their salary cap while also addressing the gap left by Howard’s departure. As they navigate the offseason, including the upcoming draft and free agency period, the team will need to identify suitable replacements and redefine their defensive identity for the future.
